Export Jobs in Indore: Executive and Manager Roles Explained
Unique Placements, Indore · 2026-10-13Indore and the nearby Pithampur industrial belt are home to manufacturers, food processors, pharma units and traders that sell outside India. Every one of them needs people who can turn an order into a shipment that clears customs and gets paid. That is the work of the export team, and it is a good career path for commerce and management graduates who like process and detail.
Common export roles
- Export executive: prepares export documents, coordinates with the CHA (customs house agent), freight forwarders and shipping lines, tracks shipments and keeps Excel records. Usually a 1 to 3 year role.
- Export documentation executive: focuses on invoices, packing lists, shipping bills, certificates of origin and bank paperwork.
- Export manager: owns international markets and distributors, handles trade compliance and payment terms such as Letters of Credit (LC), and leads the export team. Usually needs 5 or more years of experience.
- Logistics and shipping coordinator: plans containers, bookings and delivery timelines.
Skills employers look for
- Export documentation basics: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, shipping bill and certificate of origin.
- Incoterms and payment terms: knowing what FOB, CIF and similar terms mean for who pays and who carries risk. For senior roles, comfort with Letters of Credit and bank documents.
- Customs and compliance awareness: IEC (Importer Exporter Code), HS codes and basic DGFT rules. Managers should know the trade compliance side well.
- Excel and ERP: shipment trackers, MIS reports, and SAP or Tally where the company uses them.
- Communication: clear email English with overseas buyers and polite follow-up with agents and banks.
How to build your profile
- If you are new, a short course in export-import documentation or international trade helps, and you can add it to your resume honestly.
- Describe real work: "prepared export invoices and packing lists for shipments to the Middle East" says far more than "export work".
- Mention the products you handled, such as food, machinery or pharma, because employers hire for similar experience.
- For manager roles, list markets, distributors managed and the compliance or LC work you personally handled. Do not claim numbers you cannot back up.
Preparing for an interview
Expect questions on the export process step by step, what you would do if a shipment is delayed or documents do not match the LC, and how you would handle a payment delay. Revise Incoterms, the main documents and your last employer's shipping flow. Be honest about what you have not handled yet. Employers prefer a candidate who learns quickly to one who bluffs.
Pay and growth
Pay depends on the employer, the product and your experience, so treat any fixed promise with caution. The ranges on our current openings page show the upper limit for each role we are hiring for. With experience, an export executive can move into export manager and then into international business or sales leadership.
